Jazz Songs

These are original Jazz tunes that I’ve written. Most or all of them are in lead sheet format, unless I had some specific ideas for certain instruments (usually in a trio setting) of which I’ve expanded it to a score.

  • Damien

    (May 1, 2003)

This is sort of an unusual song, written as more of an etude to be played between bass and drums. It was an effort to further engender some communication that I wanted to happen on a more meaningful level with a drummer I play with, Damien Bard.

  • Forever

    Sept. 19, 2003

This is the same named song from Songs From Warsaw that proved popular enough that I play it fairly regularly in various groups.

  • (Late) In the Evening

    June 5, 2003

I tend to write songs for a specific person. This song was written for a vocalist Kate (don’t recall her last name right now) with whom I performed regularly with during 2003. She has since moved to NYC seeking her fame and fortune (shouldn’t we all?) The piece is meant to be played with a sort of second line feel from the drums on the A section and the bridge has a steady quarter note pulse while the Db pedal is happening. Once it changes to a Bbmin7 then it goes into half time ballad (don’t know why I didn’t write that into the chart, suppose it was laziness).

  • Sermon of the Drums

    Oct. 23, 2003

A head where the drums play the melody. Written for a trio setting (piano, bass, drums).

  • T’s Lament

    Sept. 23, 2003

    Sort of a brooding tune.

More to come…
