You put H2O2 Where?!
OK let me just give a little warning up front in case you are eating your lunch: this monologue may be under the disgusting category for you. If you aren’t eating or not easily phased then read on.
Our youngest has been tugging at his ear, and that usually indicates some sort of infection. Kris was at one of our doctors this week and he took a look in there. He was unable to see anything other than a large ball of earwax. He suggested cleaning it out before we could determine what was wrong.
I’m not sure which side of the family it comes from but I am also a prolific creator of earwax. I will have the occassional ball fall out of my ear in the middle of just about anything, and can feel pieces too large to escape rattling around in my head. OK, so I don’t know that it is even occassional, maybe once or twice a year it actually happens, but those pieces in my ear rattling around aren’t a rarity.
I have considered doing ear wicking partially out of fascination that you can light something on fire in your ear and it is able to tease out the wax from your ear. I have heard some horror stories about them too. Hair is not an inflammable substance, and if you are laying on your side lighting something sticking out of your ear on fire, well, I don’t imagine that you’re exactly in a fire safe state. The visual of things sticking out of your ears is amusing though. Kris hasn’t been willing to try ear wicking with me, and definitely not on Jens.
It turns out that you can pour hydrogen peroxide into your ear canals, either for breaking down the earwax or for a new sensation that I can almost guarantee you haven’t experienced before (think pop rocks in your ear canal). The process is simple, and if you are nimble with a capful of hydrogen peroxide (which I’m not) you can do it yourself (I don’t advise ear wicking solo). Just lay on your side, pour in a small amount of hydrogen peroxide and let it sit until bubbles start coming out. I can tell you if the hydrogen peroxide you use is as cold as the stuff I used you will only be able to get a small amount in as the shock of something cold running into your ear will make you jump.
Enjoy!
